This piece is inspired by one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic aquatic species: Betta splendens. Growing up, my brother always seemed to be fostering betta fish in his fish tank. I found them absolutely enchanting! Their fighting spirit and incredible intelligence combined with their strikingly vibrant morphology was unlike any other aquatic creature that I had encountered at the time. “Betta” is my impression of these fascinating subjects.
